What is the Most Depressed Country in the World?

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, occurs in 2.4 percent of people worldwide.  However, a World Health Organization survey found that the United States had the highest rate among nations examined, with 4.4 percent of people who had experienced a bipolar spectrum disorder at some point in their lifetime.

Even though that number dropped to 2.8 percent for people who said they had had the disorder within the prior 12 months, the U.S. was still first on the list.

The Los Angeles Times reports:

“The study also found that those who had bipolar symptoms also had another disorder.”
