Being Overweight Raises Risk of Deadly Breast Cancer

Being overweight could increase the risk of triple-negative breast cancers, a particularly deadly type.  Research shows that women who are overweight have a 35 percent higher risk of developing triple-negative breast cancers.

Triple-negative breast cancer is an aggressive form of cancer that affects 10 to 20 percent of cases.  It is so named because the tumors lack estrogen, progesterone or HER2 receptors needed for most breast cancer drugs to work.

According to Reuters:

“The study raises new questions about what besides estrogen drives tumors, suggesting a possible role for other growth factors or inflammation.”
