More Than 2,500 Products ‘Have Shrunk’

If you haven’t checked your coffee can label lately, you might want to do so, as the BBC reports that over 2,500 products have shrunk in size in the past five years while being sold at the same price. Going by the nom de plume, “shrinkflation,” the phenomenon is happening to all kinds of products, from sugar to chocolate to paper products — and your coffee.

While there isn’t much we can do about shrinking products short of staging a rally urging companies to tell us when they do this, there is a lot we can do to protect ourselves from the products themselves if they involve foods. Since for the most part we’re talking about processed foods here, this is a great time to simply stop buying them. Aside from being more costly money-wise, processed foods cost you your health freedom.

On the other hand, banning foods such as farmed seafood, sugary drinks and soda, including artificially sweetened soda, will also help in many ways, including “shrinking” your risk of metabolic syndrome and diabetes.
