The infant formula shortage that occurred earlier this year could have been handled better, U.S. FDA commissioner Robert Califf admitted in a September 20, 2022, briefing. From outdated data-sharing systems to food inspector staff shortages to lack of training and poor understanding of how the supply chain works, the FDA “likely contributed” to the formula delays, according to the report Califf presented.
