Not wise to involve children in early studies -please don't... and volunteering adults should be very careful and fully understand the full range of adverse effects they may be exposed to.

Many people remain ignorant through lack of individual responsibility. I am certain that these parents must sign some kind of contract and liability waiver. I assume most people do not read contracts before they sign... whether it is to buy a house, get a loan or receive medical treatment. Certainly for a clinical trial! You can tell most people any old silly thing to their face, but is what is in writing that matters.

I recall once instance where govt tried to steal the property rights of everyone in our rural neighborhood. They needed 100% agreement among the neighbors. They told people many lies. My husband and I were the only ones to actually read the contract and refuse to sign away what we already owned. (One provision stated we would no longer be allowed to drive a vehicle onto our own property!)

As a result, many lies were told about us. One neighbor even drove by and gave us the finger. One day, another neighbor made a derogatory comment to my husband. My husband only commented, "Read the contract." The neighbor returned the next day and begged us not to sign the contract as were we the only hold out left preventing govt from confiscating our property rights and water rights. It got to be quite amusing. A representative of the govt was sent out to negotiate with us. She told all kinds of lies while we just sat there not saying a thing. She listed the support of highly placed positions of people in the community supporting their efforts. My husband questioned her about them... she claimed to know these people and their authority. She was trapped in her lies and had unwittingly named my husband's job title. He quietly got up, left the room, returned and handed her his business card. Her only comment was, "I effed up." (Only she did not say "effed".) We told her she was welcome to return and discuss any further concerns with us. As a result, the right-of-way made a wide detour around our neighborhood instead of through the center of our properties! ;-)
