The tendency to escapism thru illegal narcotics does not improve a problematic situation. Better to work towards practical solutions, even if slow and difficult.

I do not like having a doctor's office call in a prescription to a pharmacy. This requires that you pick it up. I prefer having a written script where I can decide to fill it or not. I suppose Medicare will often pay which is a waste if I realize it is a toxic substance I am going to avoid. There have been times when I did not fully realize the drug I was to be given until I read the script. Reading the script first is helpful as I have also been given prescriptions for drugs I react badly to even after informing doctors the drugs were contraindicated in my case. I finally had the wisdom to get an open-minded doctor to write a letter saying I should never receive certain drugs again due to serious reactions. Consider making copies for all your medical practitioners.

I have also been in a situation of incredible pain following a vehicular accident where I was given a prescription for opioids. I decided I had enough problems already and did not need that. I realized the pain would be temporary, even if it lasted months before starting to improve. I did a lot of screaming every time I tried to move. Screaming reminds you you are alive. Just this week, that I am able to do things without pain again. It has not been easy and I continue to do physical therapy exercises daily. Regardless of disability, I find that doing daily exercises is a good strategy to keep me active and flexible at my age.

Each of us has different needs. We do not all need to be body-builders and competitors. However, it is important to each evaluate our individual situation and decide what is necessary to maintain the lifestyle we want. Then, choose an agenda of daily exercises to achieve the degree of health and movement that will make it possible.
