Churches are important for society in a number of ways, but the charitable services they're supposed (have you ever heard of any church-owned hospital whose medical services are all charitable?) to offer take the place of social welfare services that would otherwise be provided by a socially oriented government. Consequently, churches are likely to receive preferential treatment from relevant authorities, whose main concern is protecting the rich and corporations from taxation.

A (5-4) split? !!! How can those 4 supreme court justices, that takes an oath to uphold the constitution, vote that it doesn't violate the constitutional right to freedom of religion? All three branches of government are going to be the cause of another revolution because they are all corrupt. If the governments' not going to uphold the constitution then we will have to.

That's still a slim margin. How many people realize that civilization hangs by a thread, dependent on only a few individuals who provide certain skills or leadership? It is fast and easy to tear down, but takes much longer to produce. Freedom only works for a moral people. I am greatly disturbed by the number of examples of meanness, cruelty and selfish behavior I see in the world lately. I am not talking about just hoarding toilet paper, but especially of the number of things done that are extremely harmful and hurtful to children. Absolutely no reason or rationale to many of these things that go on. What kind of perverted mind even gets twisted in that direction? How can there be so many deranged people running around loose actively engaged in causing misery for others? Some days, I just have to give myself a break from reading the news. I cannot fix all the world's problems, but I can at least be productive in my own sphere. No matter what else happens, we sill need food on the table and clean underwear...
