It sickens everytime I see someone putting aspartame or some other sweetner in their tea, I almost want to tackle them to keep them from consuming the posion. My mom is a heavy user of it and she won't listen. She thinks if the goverment allows it, it must be safe, if only she knew. My wife also uses it, she thinks it's safe and that drugs are safe and effective. Big phama and other corporations have done an amazing brainwashing job. It depresses me to know that money really does make the world go round, and innocent people who have no idea that what they put in their bodies is what is making them sick. I wish people would open their eyes and realize these prescription and non prescription drugs are the same as other drugs like herion, crack, and meth...for gods sake it says so on the label it's a drug...it's time people take a stand. The chemicalese on the warning label translates into ENGLISH as: "WILL CAUSE STROKES & SEIZURES IN INFANTS, CHILDREN, PREGNANT WOMEN, DIABETICS, HYPOGLYCEMICS, SENIORS, HEALTH COMPROMISED, OBESE, CARDIO VASCULAR PATIENTS, THOSE ON CHOLESTEROL OR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE PRESCRIPTIONS, ETC."

Aspartame is UNSAFE for EVERYONE...is probably the more accurate short hand.

I would like to see some comparisons in regard to Splenda, as well. I sat in a hospital room with my brother while a registered dietitian told him to use Splenda because he was pre-diabetic(insulin resistance) as well as to eat 6 servings of carbs a day or about 300g.
I protested and she said that it was made from sucrose and was fine--and I said it has a chlorine molecule inserted in it--. Apparently that was too deep.

I wonder who funded the other studies that showed this to be a safe sweetener?
Is this about politics and money?
Once again public health is low on the list of priorities.
If this was a study on a herbal substance that was even remotly a threat the FDA would pull it off the market, have a huge marketing campaign and ignore the fact its inconsistent with other research!

I am almost positive everyone is aware of the hazards of aspertame (the fire ant and human killer) but still it doesn't seem to bother most as they continue to consume it in large quanties and keep licking their lips and moaning ummm, that taste good. So why does the FDA (Falsly Decieve Americans) not want to investigate--I am sure all has heard the wise saying--don't bite the hand that feeds you! And those within the FDA do get fed good from financial donations (buy-offs!)

The FDA is just doing their job as they see it. We all know that the FDA is composed of a set of industry insiders who see their job as protecting the companies that they have worked for in the past or may work for in the future. To declare that the Italian studies on aspartame have merit would open the companies that produce aspartame up to huge lawsuits. The FDA is just not going to let that happen. Industry does not want people to know how poisonous this substance is , hence only studies that declare aspartame is safe make it to mainstream media, And until we can wake up enough people to the fact that they are poisoning themselves with this garbage and these people begin to vote with their purses, we will continue to see aspartame on the market. The really sad part though is that food manufacturers are now going full gun to target the youth market and clueless parents are allowing their kids to consume this stuff - thinking they are doing something good for their health.

It has been difficult, but I have been able to get my husband to avoid artificial sweeteners. He is diabetic and was drawn to the "sugar-free" products. I have him hooked on agave nectar now. He and I both love it...in tea...oatmeal...green beans...etc. and we feel a lot better (I am going to be experimenting with fermented sourdoughs with agave for "treats" such as cookies and cakes...if I can get something that is really good I'll pass it on).

Though I still have some sugar in the house, we are trying to get away from it (it is usually just used to feed certain bread starters...I've got a couple different types going). Truthfully...If I had to have one of the two (sugar or artificial sweetener) I would much rather have sugar in the house!

Hello all,
I have been doing healthy eating seminars in Nashville and talking to the patients I see daily based on what we learn on this website for 5 years now. I just did one today. People are starting to come around. It is amazing when someone asks, "Why isn't the FDA doing anything"? I say, "Because they do not care. They are completely controlled by the industries they are suppose to protect us from". More than half of the people start nodding yes because they know it is true. The response I used today was, "The answer to the question is almost always, and I wait and almost all of the 25 people in attendance said,"MONEY".When I first started to say these things 5 years ago all I got were blank stares and lots of whispering. I am saying this because I see where people might be thinking that people are not listening. I sometimes get frustrated because I educate all day long and sometimes I see that I only get through to one person. But it is working. Keep pounding the message home. They are starting to wake up because of what you are doing.

Of course the FDA is going to ignore the evidence. Until they have actual documented proof that this has killed as many people or more than Vioxx has they will leave it on the market. Look at who pays their salaries. The drug companies not the government.

This stuff is so bad-NutraSweet causes symptoms of MS, seizures, muscle spasms, migraines, PMS, FM, CFIDS, etc.

Uncle Russ talked about it being a factor in Gulf War syndrome in 1992-cans of Diet Coke left out in the hot desert sun turned the aspartame into formaldehyde.

I see babies drinking diet soda and I just get sick.
