Removing the battery can work, but you have to wait, because the technology is operational for awhile even after removal. There is probably a tiny backup battery somewhere, possibly in your SIMM card, but technologies change and vary. Other than that, as long as they have a list of your acquaintances and your phone records, they know just about everything they need to know about you, which includes predicting your next move.

So, if you don’t have a phone, don’t talk over the phone (landlines included), and never had an account with a list of your contacts, you are quite safe from this. However, using a computer does the same, so you are safe only if you have never used Skype and the like, “social” media, and email from identifiable sources. You computer still has a unique “signature,” and your activities are being tracked. Even your computer speakers can act like microphones, and your camera, no matter what kind of gizmo you are using, keeps sending photos of you and your surroundings to undisclosed recipients. Having many hundreds or even thousands of contacts can confuse the system, especially if you are switching around your computers with friends and family. Also, quitting the use of gizmos is never late, but remember that USPS also records and reports your correspondence. So, you can guess how much “privacy” you can enjoy.

Life is better without a cell phone. I use my cell phone like I use my computer, but it never controls me anymore.
