A new study in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology refutes the claim that catching what Grandma would call “the death of cold” is an old wives’ tale. Information supporting argument not presented. But if you click on the link to the source of the article, it states if the temperature of your nose drops, the immune cells lining the nose don't work as well (which usually create a "barrage of fluid-filled sacs") at lower temperatures - in the study, at about 5C. So basically the inference is to keep your nose warm.

I live in a winter time environment and keep my furnace either off or use my infrared heater if needed and I find I thrive and sleep better in the cold when it is that time of year as I believe nature intended. Some of my friends keep their home as a sauna during the winter and I hear complaints of dry/bleeding sinus issues and colds etc. So to each their own I suppose.

The part I remember is the military did a study to find that cold environments do not create higher incidences of colds. Further, my thought is living healthily has your immune system working well to destroy a virus so quickly that it never becomes a cold. My personal experience is I have not had a cold nor flu for thirty-five years and I ride my bicycle and go ice fishing in Utah winters and sleep outside. I even fell through the ice once, continued ice fishing not caring about being briefly cold and without getting a cold and feeling great. My observation is colds and flu are spread to mostly all employees except me where I work when someone gets it regardless of anyone being out in the cold or not. I suspect susceptibly to colds have more to do with a person's state of health than getting cold or not.
