The change in policy appeared in

re: American Dental Association Pulls Away from Pushing Amalgam Fillings

It’s about time! When I was 19 I had a severe reaction to mercury fillings, and years of migraines. It was only after they fell out by my teeth cracking and having crowns put in or an alternative filling was used that I discovered it was the mercury causing my migraines. I haven’t had one since. I ended up in the ER 10 days after getting multiple mercury fillings put in. I had a severe migraine, tunnel vision, no vision, shortness of breath, chest pain, sweating. The doctors in the ER and after that couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me even after doing an EKG and EEG. I felt like I was poisoned.

You have to wonder what effects the mercury has on a growing fetus if the mom can’t metabolize this toxic metal?? A dentist even put a filling in when I was pregnant, joking all the time that I must’ve been chewing on rocks because that molar cracked so bad. It was his mercury that made it crack. I have been researching and found that mercury will deplete an enzyme in a certain gene (PON1)which further depletes B1, B2, B5 and B6. I was low or below normal in all of these. PON1 is responsible for metabolizing organophosphates like Roundup, toxins. And if you have a defect in your FUT2 gene which is all about the good bacteria, bifidobacterium in your gut which Roundup depletes, why wouldn’t you have stomach problems because the mercury has already depleted some of the B vitamins (B5) you need to also metabolize and get rid of a fungicide in food called sodium benzoate?

B5 is needed to attach to glycine, which is depleted, to form hippurate which is then expelled from the body. Doesn’t Roundup affect glycine too??? Mercury, and fluoride seem to be the cause in a long line of health problems that I couldn’t figure out until recently. Just like dominos, one thing effects another and on and on.

I got home to discover the toxic ring-in. Oh well, if I am not brain-addled by then, I will eventually sue the dentist for being in violation of Section 51 of the Australian Constitution, and of the Nuremberg Code. Then, I will book a seat at his hanging.

Consumers for dental choice and other similarly concerned entities, have been steadfastly working on this for decades! Finally, a win! Keep on going, brave Mercolans, because eventually, persistence pays off! PS: The late Hal Huggins DDS MS , toxicologist/immunologist/dentist, wrote that toxicologists recognize mercury to be THE Most toxic substance on the planet, except for two radioactive isotopes which outshine its toxicity. So it is, in other words, third in place. That's pretty high on the toxic list. Some states won't let dentists touch the mercury fillings with their ungloved hands and they have to dispose of it as toxic waste, can't dump it down the drain, etc. Yet, here goes the ADA approving it in our very own mouths! Ohhh not so nice people. Isn't it time for an ethic and a care in life? Can't people make big money doing good instead of harm? Sheesh.

After retiring and moving to the US I went to Mexico for some dental work. I was literally shocked by the level of technology and service. If insurance only pays for the cheapest treatments there isn't the same push for upgrades. Just after I retired I had two root canals and tooth replacements. I am still smarting about the absurd cost in Canada (and that was 15 years ago). I could have flown to Thailand (business class) got my dental work done and pickup up a new custom flitted wardrobe before I left. I still live in Canada part of the year - but make sure I never get any dental care in Canada. Perhaps unfair comparison but the cost is absurd for the quality offered.

I had to stand my ground against him pressuring me. He says the "silver" fillings are easier to put in & they stay in better. I have been losing fillings & had a place that was hard for me to do. More than once I get this pressure. Also, he pressures me about fluoride a LOT. He wants me to use something, a fluoride rinse or something, I forgot exactly & it's nearly every time I go in. It upsets me. I had a holistic dentist for awhile, but then he died & I couldn't find another than was good, so I have a regular one. Ugh!

After 30 years working in a preventive medical practice, I noticed a gradual increase in afternoon fatigue, a metalic taste in my mouth and chronic swollen gums. I had a trace mineral analysis run and found my mercury levels were off the chart. It seems I had 8 amalgam (silver) fillings, some over 70 years old.. A qualified dentist removed the fillings and I was IV chelated to remove left over mercury tissue storage. What a difference! There are now verry effective composite fillings that are safe and match the tooth's color. Never allow a dentist to use amalgam fillings for tooth repair.
