Despite the unreasonable reason of "research" of an undefined nature and without permission, the last organization that should ever have free reigning access to private and personal information is GOOGLE! The audacity of a medical institution making this decision for me should be a crime I dont have to fight. It should be an immediate multimillion dollar fine from our government as their only job is to PROTECT AND ...WAIT FOR IT....SERVE!!!!!!!!!!!! WELCOME TO THE CORPOCRACY. NO LONGER A DEMOCRACY regardless of your party. Corporations triumph over individuals every time anymore.

What an idiot. I can't believe what people believe. Further, did anybody here know that the Patriot Act, as best I recall, makes YOUR medical records the personal property of the Feds? Enter Google, saying that their medical data mining, is HIPAA protected. Aha.

It does not mean what you think it does. This is not about some kind of laboratory finding a cure for disease. What is actually being referred to is more often "market research" and collecting data to present to state legislatures to convince govt to buy pharmaceutical drugs. At the very least to convince the consumer to use more drugs regardless of who pays. And convince physicians to order more drugs. What would happen, if, instead of the revolving door between pharmaceutical companies and govt, there was a department of alternative medicine and options other than pharmaceutical drugs?

I have had considerable problems with my records being mined by third parties. HIPPA is a joke. Fortunately, all that was on my records in the last several decades were a prescription for a pain-killers that I did not need or use, but doctors wanted me to have avail after dental surgery and a vehicle accident, and an antibiotic for an eye infection after an injury.

Curiously, doctors were liberal with giving out drugs, but I was never able to get any real treatment or physical therapy. Fortunately, I had the training and experience to heal myself in addition to advice from out-of-state friends I could rely on for their medical expertise. It was very scary to heal open wounds and exposed joints, but I healed with almost barely any scarring which was incredible. It is a miracle I am even walking today. I recall calling the offices of over 70 providers and could not get an appointment with any of them, so I finally gave up.

I did not go to ER because my experiences had been so bad that I did not feel safe there. (Confused my records with another patient and drugs I should not have been given.) I did not have the stamina to wait 8 hours to be seen and knowing they would only tell me to see my own doctor Monday morning--as if I could even get an appt. My assigned doctor has never been avail anyway--I have never seen him. Don't even know his name
