Sugar is inflammatory. I found that cutting sugar out of my diet greatly reduced my menstrual cramps. In order to get rid of menstrual cramps completely, I found that getting rid of yeast problems in the body is essential. (Yeast problems are very common and can be brought on through sugar consumption, antibiotic use, stress, use of birth control pills, etc.). I got rid of my yeast problems by following a MEVY diet: only eating meat, eggs, non-starchy veggies, & sugar-free yogurt for one month, then gradually adding fruit, nuts and small amounts of starchy veggies.

This totally got rid of my menstrual cramps permanently -- they only came back if I ate too many inflammatory foods such as sugar, high starch veggies, etc or took antibiotics without a course of extra yogurt afterward. (Use of a nasal steroid also brought on yeast problems, so it's important to stay away from steroids.) Just a warning: if yeast problems are severe, the MEVY diet will cause die-off symptoms. This is a good sign. However, a person has to drink a tablespoon of psyllium in water one hour after each meal in order to absorb the toxins from the yeast die-off. Use of ibuprophen, long-term, is not a good idea due to the damage it does to the lining of the stomach.
