Not only toxic but will combine with the heavy metals and bind them becoming more toxic and harder to eliminate.

Doing so because it is cheaper to do so. I recently contacted the CEO of our S. Africa certification society and asked how much soil humus is required for registration? He replied that there is no requirement. I discovered that as my organic content increased, so did the flavor and tenderness of my vegetables improve. i am now on just over 5% humus. The feeding of the soil living organisms increases the availability of dozens of soil minerals to the plants which increases plant and human health.

I am not registered organic and sell taste. For instance being a customer of my local supermarket, I sked if he would purchase tomatoes from me. He would give me a small order for a few weeks after which his staff and customers started to comment to him about the taste of my tomatoes after which he increase my order 5 fold which was his his full requirement. My tomatoes are grown in polythene tunnels in the soil which is not fumigated and no chemical fertilizers for over 20 years.

Our Agricultural Research Council had 2 entomologists visit 6 times over the past 2 years to see how I can get away without spraying and collecting beneficial insects that control my pests. I have plenty photos of all my procedures. According to our certification requirements, It should rather be non chemical than organic. I have been writing every week for the Farmers Weekly every week on vegetable growing fir the past 21 years and most of these are also on the internet. Regards, Bill Kerr.
