npic.orst.edu/.../boricgen.html

pestweb.com/.../borates-and-bugs

and is an often recommended treatment to kill hookworms in soil, but I don't know about brain worms specifically. I figure that something that is said to kill hookworms in soil should be effective against internal nematodes.

www.ehow.com/facts_5833503_soil-treatment-hookworm.html

There's usually a suggestion that the Borax crystals "scratch" the carapace and "dehydrate" them, and often the effects of ingestion by insects is ignored, I assume in an effort to make the idea sound crazy instead of pointing out how much borates tear up their guts. Ingestion by rat lungworms would require tissue or fluids in the brain to contain enough borate to be effective.

The big push against borates, resulting in all sorts of scary warnings, is that they have been shown to increase fluoride excretion, and here in the States certain people are desperate to not get sued over fluoridation, and certain others apparently think endocrine disruption is good population control, so they oppose anything anti-fluoride, including vilifying borates as much as possible. A quick search of PubMed can show a list of studies using borates to reduce fluoride toxicity in rabbits, rats, and even cattle. So ignore the scare tactics about using borates. There's a short list here that show both fluoride removal and the effects on calcium-phosphorus metabolism:

trihalo42.tumblr.com/.../studies-utilizing-boron-to-reduce-fluoride

IMO it's really messed up that a possible cure could be covered up for the sake of water fluoridation.
