But did you know there’s plenty of science showing that practicing either or both can boost your health? Lots of blogs and health newsletters are talking about this

re: 12 Scientific Ways to Boost Your Health by Just Thinking About It!

I used to wonder whether dumb people were happier with their lives because they could not see the problems. Then, I wondered whether smart people were happier with their lives because they have the potential to be resourceful at problem-solving. Ultimately, I decided it is more about attitude and mindset. People who are optimistic and grateful seem to do the best of all. A person who is optimistic is probably also likely to feel like they are more in control of their life rather than being a victim. They are a joy to be around and seem to attract good karma. In so many ways, our thoughts create our reality.

For example, this year I have already received so many incredible homemade gifts. People know that I work hard and know what hard work is. They know that I will appreciate things they work hard to make, too. I would much rather receive practical homemade gifts that I can use or use up--I am not out to impress anyone and don't like stuff that sits on a shelf and needs to be dusted. Those are not the kinds of things you own, but things that own you. Many handcrafted items are well made and last a long time. One advantage is that they give you satisfaction each time you use them. Unlike some of the mass-produced stuff that is not made to last... and you hate every minute you are using it, until it breaks and needs to be replaced.

We got a lot of food gifts this year and items crafted from natural resources. It means so much to me when people remember me after they have gone to the daily trouble to raise animals and butcher to share meat. Or thinking how they went to the forest to gather just the right special materials and work with their hands. None of these gifts cost a lot of money, but each is a gift from the heart that brings a part of the giver along with it.

I spoke with a woman who told me she only gives money because it is all her grandkids want. I find this very sad. My high point at Christmas was running into my Grandma's arms.
