I'm struggling to understand why Americans are so unhealthy today and at risk from common childhood illnesses like measles and whooping cough. Is it because they now rely almost entirely on medical interventions and medications to fix them when they have allowed themselves to become diseased?

I grew up after WW2 in the UK where we had to grow a lot of our own food, were restricted in the amount of animal produce we could eat and provided with school milk and school dinners which were carefully designed to provide a healthy balance of nutrients - they were cooked on site using fresh produce and you ate them whether you liked it or not: starving was the only other option.

If we had 'cereal' for breakfast it was in the form of porridge which was cooked from scratch.

There weren't many vaccines available in the UK and children were encouraged to 'catch' the childhood diseases as a rite of passage and were healthier in the long term - any complications arose out of poor nutrition for those people who refused to eat their carrots.

We didn't have a bathroom or indoor toilet until I was 4 years old and 'household cleaning' involved soap and water with a scrubbing brush once a week - no chance of killing germs and bacteria with chemical cleaners.

We were encouraged to play outside to make the most of sunlight with all the local children. We did not wash off the sun on our skins between weekly baths (shared with siblings) so vitamin D had the opportunity to be absorbed fully.

Catching childhood diseases were mainly 'fun' as it allowed us to take a few days off school and be spoiled with jelly and ice cream and we had plenty of visitors as other children were encouraged to come along to catch the current disease.

Sadly the UK seems to be following the USA in their habits and most younger people have caught the 'fear of disease' along with the expectation that the medical profession will repair any damage they do to themselves through poor diet and lifestyle choices

I used to get behind the anti-vax movement. Then I got smart about it and when I had my 1st child I made sure she was vaccinated. I'm generally a fan of Dr. Mercola, but the anti-vax movement is irresponsible. How about articles with suggestions for parents who feel the same as me?

This has become a constant refrain, instead of officials reporting and marveling at how many of their students will now have natural immunity for a long time, and will not need additional boosters, they freak and the media reports as if some kind of variation of the 1918 flu epidemic is underway.

Do you suppose the CDC will ever come clean that it was way over-the-top use of aspirin that caused most of the deaths in 1918? Doubt it, as telling the general population would mean their reason for existence will be partly blown.

Don't let this story depress you, but help us all see that our culture is in need of desperate change! Break the vicious cycle by doing what you can. Stop vaccinating your kids, speak up about it. Quit being afraid. For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love, and self-control.
