I went into hospital for a routine hysterectomy. I had a load of scar tissue which made the bladder adhere to the uterus. At the end they removed the uterus, pierced my bladder and small intestine. It could have been a tear in both due to separating the organs from each other.

Three days later I’m back in hospital with fistulas and open incision with matter flooding out. Then came sepsis. Then came a two month nightmare hospital stay.

I’m seven months along in my recovery, still with home nursing care three times a week. I cannot hold my urine as the bladder catheter was in place for 6 months, so now I need pelvic floor physiotherapy.

Be very aware of what you need and don’t get any surgery you don’t need.

Be well.
