Except this study suggests high folic acid intake may be a risk factor for autism (PMC5704156). There are other negative effects, some studies link folic acid to cancer. Excess folic acid supplementation metabolically mimic dietary folate deficiency. Folic acid is synthetic and poorly absorbed. Methylfolate or folinic acid are the forms you want. Two factors for the folate deficiency are the reduced methylation capacity (MTHFR mutation, PMID: 23653228) and FRα (folate receptor) autoantibodies which blocks the transfer of folate from the mother to the baby and the transport of folate to the baby's nervous system (PMC6604479).
