Ventilators are the last-ditch mechanical means available

re: Why the US Ran Short of Ventilators

One more thing to add to the list now that is directly in line with this article ... the need for ventilators when people are treated with common INEXPENSIVE malaria drugs. As I walked past a TV yesterday, there was a person talking about the availability and lack of profit being the motive for not putting more emphasis on these drugs by the federal agencies. I hope at the end of this I hope there are valid investigations into these federal agencies and the conflicts of interest. My question is ... who will investigate? We really can't trust politicians and in many cases lately there has been an issue with IG reports not being truthful.

Given the high hospitalization rates of about seven percent according to Dr. Tam, I feel that the estimated survival rate of 0.1% is based on having sufficient ventilators. That means prevention is crucial. By staying safe, we can also spare ourselves a lot of pain, and high medical bills even when we're likely to survive it.

Cities are now working on makeshift hospitals to handle extra demands so that there's space for those with unrelated conditions as well.
