After all the hand-wringing and goofy theories, it may be something as random as a few wild pigs spreading E. coli-tainted feces through one spinach field in California that made American health officials pull all the organic spinach from all grocery stores shelves.
Samples taken from one pig in addition to stream water and cattle at one farm tested positive for the very same E. coli strain connected to the outbreak, among some 750 collected from four locations in San Benito and Monterrey counties.
So, despite what some lawmakers believe, there really isn't a need to revamp the current federal bureaucracy used to oversee American food safety into one more amalgamated governmental agency that would be compromised, just like the FDA, from the get-go.
