Dieting has fallen out of favor in the U.S., while trying to eat more healthfully is becoming more popular.
Twenty-nine percent of women and 19 percent of men are currently on diets, compared to 35 percent of women and 23 percent of men a decade ago. More people now see dieting as not a healthy way to live long-term.
However, 60 percent of adults still do desire to lose an average of 20 pounds, which is close to the 62 percent of U.S. adults who are overweight.
