New York City sought a second time to force fast food chains to display calorie counts on their menu boards. Last year, a federal judge quashed a similar proposal.
The city believes the new rule will be allowed, because it subjects all restaurants with more than 15 locations to the requirement. The previous rule only affected restaurants that were following voluntary federal nutritional labeling guidelines.
In an earlier attempt to combat obesity, New York City banned trans-fats from restaurants in 2006.
