Just as Major League Baseball begins to dig out from a steroid-use scandal, reports are coming that plays are switching to a new kind of drug: Ritalin, Adderall and other drugs designed to help with Attention-Deficit Disorder.
The number of players getting "therapeutic use exemptions" from baseball's amphetamines ban jumped in one year from 28 to 103 -- meaning that 7.6 percent all players on the major-league rosters have suddenly been diagnosed with ADD.
In 2005, baseball banned the use of "greenies," amphetamines that help players remained focused and energetic. In some big-league clubhouses, greenies were used to spike the coffee. Players are now seeking ADD prescriptions to replace the now-illegal energy boosting drugs.
