While I do not agree with every point of this ABC News article -- for example, it recommends milk without bothering to mention that raw milk is infinitely better than pasteurized -- the basic premise is sound; good nutrition does not have to bankrupt you.
Eggs, fresh vegetables, and other wholesome foods are both cheaper and better than expensive processed varieties. Why pay more for packaging and processing, not to mention the unhealthy additives and chemicals that are always thrown into the mix as well?
And why waste money on soda which is little more than sugar water with a few cheap flavorings thrown in? You’re paying a dollar or more for a few cents’ worth of unhealthy ingredients and a massive advertising campaign.
