Can Pizza Spice Protect You From Inflammation?

Posted By Dr. Mercola | June 30 2008 | 1174 views

Oregano doesn't only give a pizza its taste; it also contains a substance which helps to cure inflammations.

The compound, known as beta-caryophyllin (E-BCP), was given to mice with inflamed paws. In seven out of ten cases, there was a subsequent improvement in the symptoms.

E-BCP might be of use against disorders such as osteoporosis and arteriosclerosis. It is not just found in oregano; it is also present in plants such as basil, rosemary, cinnamon, and black pepper.
