Every year, thousands of people seek emergency treatment for unexplained chest pains. Common factors among those affected include stress at work, anxiety, depression and a sedentary lifestyle.
Unexplained chest pain cannot be linked to biomedical factors such as heart disease or other illnesses. So far, researchers have been unable to identify specific causes for unexplained chest pain.
New research shows that patients with unexplained chest pain experience more symptoms of depression, anxiety and work-related stress than those not suffering the problem. They also tended to lead a more sedentary lifestyle.
