When heated to 86 degrees Fahrenheit, aspartame releases free methanol that breaks down into formic acid and formaldehyde. The temperature of your mouth is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Aspartame in gum is absorbed by tissues of your mouth, gums, and tongue, and passes directly into your brain. Still more aspartame is ingested into your digestive tract, where it breaks down into numerous other poisons.
In test animals, Splenda (sucralose) produced swollen livers, like all chlorocarbon poisons, and also calcified the kidneys of test animals in toxicity studies. Chlorocarbon poisoning can cause cancer, birth defects, and immune system destruction.
