Epidemic of Pet Obesity

Just like their owners, many pets are now afflicted with far too much weight. The causes are identical to humans:

  • Too many cereal grains
  • Not enough exercise
  • Overfeeding

Many pets also struggle with the side effects of being spayed or neutered and those procedures are a definite contributor to weight gain. Some pet owners are having success using the Atkins Diet to help their pets lose weight.

Annual sales of pet food in the United States are about $12 billion so there is quite a bit of pressure to have the pets maintain the status quo and avoid using successful approaches like the BARF Diet (Bones and Raw Foods). The BARF Diet has helped many pets normalize their weight with raw food. You can read my recent article on this for more information.
