Red Wine May Hold Secret to Long Life

The antioxidant trans-resveratrol is one of the components of red wine that is thought to combat heart disease and cancer by neutralizing oxidizing agents including free radicals. Earlier this year I recommended using this antioxidant as a way to further preserve vegetables and fruit.

Now new research from Harvard University shows that this molecule might actually switch on a longevity gene. However, don't rush out to purchase a resveratol supplement just yet as the researcher found that no product has any active ingredient. At this time the only effective source appears to be red wine. However, researchers are working on methods to provide it in active supplemental form.
