Space Elevator

About 60 experts recently finished a conference at Los Alamos that reviewed the feasibility of building an elevator to space. The idea has been around for over a century. The elevator would bring the cost of bringing objects into space down from $10,000 a pound to $100 a pound. New technologies like carbon nanotubes would form the actual elevator, which would be anywhere from 50 to 300 miles high. But don't hold your breath for the elevator is not projected to be built for at least 50 years from now and many project even well beyond that.
