Fish Oil Blocks Artery-Clogging Gene

Scientists have found the first strong link in humans between a common gene and risk for atherosclerosis, the disease that leads to most heart attacks and strokes. The effect of the gene on atherosclerosis depends upon diet. Consuming certain polyunsaturated fats, like vegetable oils, increased the adverse effects of the gene, while consuming omega-3 fats, found in fish oil and cod liver oil, blocked the adverse effect. Check out this past article for more information on the link between fish oil and heart benefits.
