U.S. Government Influenced by Sugar Industry

Two-thirds of the U.S. population is overweight, and it is no mystery that consumption of sugar plays a major role in the obesity epidemic. Now European scientists are documenting how the Bush administration is putting the interests of powerful American sugar barons ahead of the global fight against obesity. Since 1990, successive U.S. governments have blocked the World Health Organization's calls for action to have a national recommendation to reduce sugar consumption from 25 percent to 10 percent. The Bush administration receives millions in funding from the sugar industry and has actively opposed this elementary first step claiming that there isn't enough evidence. Perhaps the administration should review some of the 100-plus ways in which sugar can damage your health reference list that I have compiled. Fortunately, you don't have to wait for the government to give its "blessing" to say that sugar should be reduced. You can do that now and start to reap the health benefits.
