Tenth Planet in Solar System Discovered

As expected from the wire services yesterday, NASA announced that astronomers in California have found the coldest, most distant object seen to date in the solar system, a "planetoid" smaller than Pluto and three times as far away, with a bizarre, shiny, red surface. The surface temperature is 400 degrees below zero. It also has a wildly elliptical orbit, ranging from 8 billion miles to 84 billion miles from the sun. The planetoid, whose proposed name is Sedna, for the Inuit sea goddess, may be the first of many objects in this region of space that astronomers will find in the near future.
