Parents Don't See Obesity in Their Children

Parents are so accustomed to seeing overweight youngsters that many fail to realize when their own children are obese. This is a worrying trend because being overweight and obese increases the risk of suffering from a variety of preventable illnesses later in life, like type 2 diabetes. In the study, one-third of mothers and more than half of fathers saw their obese child as normal. Even in young children being overweight can cause metabolic changes that are precursors to diabetes, so it's important to address childhood obesity before irreversible damage is done.
