Trans-Fat-Free Snacks Coming

I've been posting the dangers of trans fats for some time, and last year the FDA announced that food manufacturers will be required to list trans fat on Nutrition Facts labels by 2006. Now many manufacturers eager to gain market share--and to stave off consumer health concerns--are announcing their snacks, including some crackers, chips and cookies, are trans-fat-free way ahead of the required deadline. This is a step in the right direction for sure, as trans fats are one of the worst things you can eat, but don't be fooled into thinking these products are suddenly healthful. They are still highly processed, devoid of nutritional value and not health promoting in any way.
