Junk Food One-Third of Diet

I have previously mentioned that 90 percent of the money Americans spend on food goes toward processed foods. But now a study of nearly 5,000 adults showed that soft drinks and pastries pile on more calories in the daily diet than anything else. Sodas contributed 7.1 percent of the total calories eaten. Sweets topped the list, followed by hamburgers, pizza and potato chips. In contrast healthy foods like vegetables and fruit make up only 10 percent of the caloric intake in the U.S. diet. Very sad, but this data is four years old and I believe that the trend is starting to reverse and many of the readers of this newsletter are leaders in this effort.
