Happiness Helps the Heart

As I wrote last year, mental stress is one of the most common causes of heart attacks. Similarly, a study has found that happily married women tend to have healthier hearts than those who are lonely or unhappy. This is because happy and supportive relationships have a positive effect on the health of human hearts. Conversely, the study found that lonely women's hearts had a lower capacity to vary pulse rate, meaning they are less able to cope with physical strain. Socially isolated women also tended to be more at risk from obesity and diabetes. You can read my past article on the topic for more on how your relationships affect the health of your heart and mind.
