I've been saying for a long time that getting your antioxidants ">by eating healthy foods is the easiest, most natural way to fight against free radicals in your body and prevent damage from oxidation. Antioxidants are a necessity to every diet because no matter how healthy a lifestyle you lead you will be exposed to free radicals.
So it's no surprise to me a review of research between 1994 and 2002 by the American Heart Association (AHA) found that antioxidant supplements largely have no effect on preventing or treating cardiovascular disease. The lead researcher believes there is little reason to advise patients to take antioxidant supplements to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease.
The antioxidant studies reviewed fell into three headings:
- No effect on cardiovascular patients
- Adverse effects on cardiovascular patients
- Beneficial effects on cardiovascular patients
The majority of the studies found antioxidant supplements have no effect on cardiovascular patients.
Researchers recommended a diet high in fruits and vegetables are associated with decreased risk of cardiovascular disease, along with maintaining a healthy body weight and exercising. You can also fine-tune your diet so you feel great and have plenty of energy by learning more about your nutritional type.
