Acupuncture Over Botox?

Meridian-based energy therapies like acupuncture are quite useful for treating a number of health problems such as pain and addictions. Although I prefer techniques like EFT -- because you can learn and practice this valuable technique on your own -- acupuncture is almost always better than drugs or other more invasive treatments.

This whole health perspective is what drew me to this piece about an acupuncturist in New York who stays extremely busy giving treatments to women so they can get rid of wrinkles in place of Botox. One first-timer who was interviewed had 26 needles pierce her ankles, knees, arms and face in the first of a series of acupuncture treatments intended to erase the laugh lines around her mouth, crow's feet around her eyes, scowl lines on her forehead and sagging at the sides of her chin.

The NY acupuncturist claims her treatments -- at $150 apiece -- are supposed to last six months or more, although other experts recommend monthly maintenance. In comparison, Botox injections cost several hundred dollars per treatment and last about three months.

Of course, the president of the American Society of Plastic Surgery chimed in, cliaming acupuncture may help with pain but these more natural face-lifts have not proven to be effective or long-lasting. That non-endorsement is nothing surprising: Traditional surgical face-lifts can run anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000, yet last for years.

There's a much simpler and healthier way to avoid the knife and needles, however. If you are interested in truly optimizing your health, your weight, and your energy -- and in avoiding premature aging -- one of the most important steps you should take is to learn your nutritional type and eat according to it.
