The Damaging Effects of NSAIDs Widen

The long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) kills more than 16,000 people and sends about 103,000 patients to the hospital ANNUALLY! In fact, more Americans die each year from NSAIDs-related complications than from AIDS and cervical cancer. Until recently, the damage caused by NSAIDs was thought to be limited to the stomach (bleeding ulcers) and kidneys.

Using video capsule endoscopy, researchers recently discovered chronic users of NSAIDs have an increased risk of bleeding and visible damage to their small intestines.

More than 70 percent of patients who took NSAIDs for more than 90 days had visible injuries to their small intestines, ranging from small erosions to severe ulcers.

In excess of 30 million people take over-the-counter and prescription NSAIDs for pain relief, headaches and arthritis every day, costing Americans some $10 BILLION annually, but you really don't need to take them. You can create your own anti-inflammatory just by changing the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fats in your diet.
