If you still unconvinced about the dangers of using a cellular phone, results from a new study on how electromagnetic fields (EMFs) affect your brain should change your mind.
Italian researchers used transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to measure how the brains of 15 young male patients functioned before, during and after they were exposed to EMFs emitted from a common mobile phone (GSM radio phones) for 45 minutes.
In 12 patients, those EMFs mobiles excited the cortex of their brains while they were using their mobiles, but snapped back to normal within a hour, leading scientists to speculate those with epilepsy and other conditions linked to cortical excitability could be affected too.
Researchers were very careful to stay clear of any controversial recommendations about cellular phone use, however, expecting the wrath coming down on their heads from big business interests. If you have a cellular phone, here's two ways to use it safely:
- Ensure it has a speakerphone function so you're not placing the phone next to your head.
- Wear a headset equipped with a ferrite bead that blocks harmful EMF radiation.
