FDA Refuses to Investigate Aspartame/Cancer Link

A recently published Italian study found aspartame does indeed cause cancer.

This is the second study by the same lab, which confirms their previous findings, yet FDA spokesmen have stated they see no reason to alter its previous conclusions that "...aspartame is safe as a general purpose sweetener in food."

The Italian research team fed high doses of aspartame to rats, allowing them to live until they died naturally.

The results showed increased risk of several types of cancer, including leukemia, lymphoma and breast cancer.

FDA spokesman Michael Herdon stated that the conclusions from this study are inconsistent with other studies evaluated by the FDA, including five negative chronic carcinogenicity studies. Michael Jacobson of CSPI points out, however, that in previous studies the rats were killed after two years. He believes letting the rats live longer may be a better way to study the effects of chronic use.

Granted, the study only confirms the cancer risk of aspartame at very high doses--double the U.S. Acceptable Daily Intake. According to CSPI, the Acceptable Daily Intake of aspartame in the U.S. is 50 mg per kilogram of body weight. This equates to a child drinking about 2.5 cans of diet soda per day, or a 150-pound adult guzzling down 7.5 cans a day.

However, considering the fact that the human life span is far greater than the life span of a rat, and the fact that aspartame is included in a wide variety of foods, from soft drinks to breads, it would seem reasonable to believe that the human risk is great.

Please--throw out your NutraSweet and Equal packets, and review the food labels of the items you buy!

Although the FDA remains steadfast in their deadly mission to allow harmful toxins for the sake of their "clients" making a buck, don't believe for a second that aspartame is anything but a toxic substance. Jacobson of CSPI also recommends not buying any product containing aspartame, based on the findings.

I've written extensively about the dangers of aspartame in the past--here is a page containing a collection of some of the best sources of information:
Articles on Aspartame.

Seizures, headaches, body rashes and inexplicable pains, mental fog, dizziness are all very common signs and symptoms of acute aspartame poisoning. If you experience any kind of inexplicable symptoms, a good start may be to ferret out all aspartame-laden products from your diet. Many report an increased feeling of general health after just a few days of abstinence.
