Brains of Overweight People Look Ten Years Older Than Those of Lean Peers

An interesting new comparison of brain scans has revealed that the brains of obese and overweight people appear 10 years older than their lean peers. As The Guardian reports, "Despite a higher BMI being linked to a smaller volume of white matter, it did not appear to have any link to mental prowess, with no difference seen between lean and overweight or obese participants when they were subjected to IQ tests."

DON'T WAIT TO LOSE WEIGHT: Regardless of impact on IQ, 1 in 5 U.S. deaths are now related to obesity. Carrying excess weight virtually guarantees you'll suffer health problems. This is why childhood obesity is such a grave concern, as obese children are likely to suffer the consequences much earlier in their adult life. Cancer is a major long-term hazard. Worldwide, obesity is responsible for half a million cancers each year. In a nutshell, if you're concerned about your weight and health, you need to address the quality of your food, and avoid chemical exposures.
