65 Tons of Chicken Nuggets Recalled

Tyson Foods is voluntarily recalling more than 130,000 pounds of cooked chicken nuggets, according to CNN Health. The recall was issued after a customer reported finding foreign material in a chicken nugget product, which is one of many processed foods on the market.

Contaminants aside, I’ve talked about the dangers of processed foods many times. About 90 percent of the money Americans spend on food goes to buy processed foods, mainly in the form of convenience foods such as breakfast cereals, pizza, soda, chips and other salty/sweet/savory snacks, packaged baked goods, microwaveable frozen meals, instant soups and sauces.

The truth is processed foods are making the world sick and fat, primarily because they’re high in sugar, fructose, refined carbohydrates and artificial ingredients. Plus, they not only are low in nutrients and fiber, but are addictive and designed to make you overeat.

There are more than 3,000 food additives that can be in processed foods. Some of the worst ingredients are artificial sweeteners, artificial colors and artificial flavors, along with synthetic trans fats, monosodium glutamate (MSG) used as a flavor enhancer, preservatives and high fructose corn syrup.

The secret to better health is to eat REAL food that has been organically grown (or organically raised and grass-fed in the case of meats). Ditching processed foods requires that you plan your meals in advance, but if you take it step-by-step as described in my nutrition plan, it's quite possible, and manageable, to painlessly remove processed foods from your diet.
