FDA Tests Confirm Oatmeal, Baby Foods Contain Residues of Monsanto Weed Killer

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which is quietly testing certain foods for residues of a weed killing chemical linked to cancer, has found it in a variety of oat products, including baby foods, The Huffington Post reports.

The guilty contaminant, glyphosate, is the most widely used weed killer in the world, and laboratory findings show that babies already are being assaulted with it via their mothers’ breast milk. Monsanto’s “gift” to newborns goes even further, however: An in vitro study designed to simulate human exposures also found that glyphosate crosses the placental barrier.

The latest news on baby cereals just emphasizes the careless disregard that Monsanto has for anything but its bottom line — which may be why they are accepting Bayer AG’s $56 billion takeover offer which will make the new entity the largest seed and pesticide company in the world.

If the merger goes through, we’ll be left with just four companies providing 59 percent of the global seeds and 64 percent of the world’s pesticides, and with monopolies like this it will become almost impossible to control what they do, where, with your food. That’s why it’s important to stand up now, and demand that you have a choice in this. Speak with your pocketbook: refuse to buy the brands that support GMO crops that need these pesticides.

Shop at local farmers markets whenever you can, eat organically-grown fruits and vegetables, and demand that GMO companies plainly label their products.
