Up to 14 Million Children Exposed to Toxic Industrial Chemicals in Schools

As many as 14 million students in 26,000 schools across the U.S. may be sitting in the center of noxious chemicals banned more than 40 years ago, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) reports. PCBs, manufactured by chemical giant Monsanto from the 1920s to the 1970s, are leaking from old electrical equipment, paints, caulks and fluorescent lights in schools built during that time.

The shocking findings were released by Sen Edward Markey (D-Mass), who concluded there is “an urgent need” to fix this problem as soon as possible. What’s even more shocking, but not surprising, is that Monsanto knew shortly after they discovered PCBs that they were dangerous but hid the information for decades. What’s most devastating is that even though they’ve been sued numerous times, for some reason they always come out on top — with the U.S. government continuing to watch Monsanto’s back.

It will be interesting to see how Sen. Markey achieves his goal of cleaning up the air that Monsanto poisoned. In the meantime, Monsanto — soon to be Bayer if Bayer succeeds in its buyout of Monsanto — will continue to profit from its ill deeds unless YOU help to stop it. From government-subsidized commodities for its GMO corn and soy to the fight against your right to know how your food is grown and brought to market, Monsanto continues to poison the world.

One way you can fight this is to demand that GMO foods be labeled. Shop at local farms and farmers markets, and buy only products marked “USDA 100 percent Organic,” “100 percent Grass-Fed” or “Non-GMO Verified.”
