Across The Globe, Our Diets Are Making Us Sicker, Report Finds

A study by the Global Panel, an independent group of experts with a commitment to tackling global challenges in food and nutrition security, has concluded that poor diets now pose a greater risk to global health than unsafe sex, alcohol, drug and tobacco use combined.

This is a sobering commentary on both food systems and 21st century food culture that underscores the need for immediate action on not only what we eat, but how our food is grown. This begins with ending the lie that genetic engineering (GE) of our basic foods is the answer to the world’s food needs, and calling a halt to the drenching of our crops — and ultimately our environment — with toxic herbicides, pesticides and fungicides.

If you need convincing that GE foods lack nutrition and can literally make you fat, read the book, “Altered Genes, Twisted Truth — How GMOs Took Over the Food Supply,” whose author I interviewed last year. It provides a historical record of the irresponsible behavior of eminent scientists and scientific institutions in the earlier decades of the genetic engineering revolution, and the land degeneration that followed. The book will leave you breathless, especially when you learn of the corruption that made processed GE foods your food plate’s mainstay.

It’s no secret that poverty and land degeneration go hand-in-hand. Thankfully, there is a way out of this, through land rehabilitation projects and regenerative agriculture that can reverse the destruction and return the Earth to its natural state with organic farming and livestock keeping.
