Soda and Snack Food Companies Welcomed at Nutrition Conference

Once again, junk food peddlers like PepsiCo and Nestle are main entrance attractions at the annual Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo in Boston, Time reports. The event is sponsored by the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals — the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).

It’s not surprising that other junk food organizations like the American Beverage Association, the National Confectioners Association and the Sugar Association will also be there. AND conferences in the past have always partnered with these groups, as well as Coca-Cola, Mars and Kellogg. What’s sad is that this annual conference of food and nutrition experts is so aligned with precisely the foods we need to eat LESS of in order to stay healthy and fight obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer and other chronic diseases.

But an even more pernicious force than AND is the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which is essentially an extension of the medical monopoly that strives to limit access to truthful information about nutrition and health. The FDA’s latest target is the nutritional supplement industry. By making it virtually impossible for you to obtain good information about supplements, they increase the sale of drugs, and this makes the pharmaceutical industry oh, so happy.
