Pushups Have Benefits

If you’re looking for a good all-over exercise, pushups have a lot of benefits, reports. They not only increase bone mass and metabolic rate, but also give you an energy boost while conditioning your upper body.

Push-ups are one of the simplest, least expensive, yet most effective exercises to build a strong upper body and midsection. By perfecting your technique, you can target both chest muscles and abs. First, start with the proper form: Slow down your movement so you’re using three-second contractions. Then be sure to do a full range of motion by lowering your body all the way down and then pushing all the way up without locking your elbows.

Keep your elbows aligned, your body stiff and straight as a plank, and then breathe IN on the way down and OUT on the way UP. You can also try reverse pushups, which involves lowering your body into the typical push-up position, then, instead of pushing your body upward, bending your knees and moving your body backward before again moving forward into the push-up starting position.

When you’re ready, try planking, a type of pushup that you hold for several seconds or minutes. Holding a plank position requires strength, stability and endurance in your core muscles, so be sure to start slow and increase your hold time over a period of 30 days to gain maximum benefits from it.
